Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, France

 

On 16th March, 1916, 17th London (Poplar and Stepney Rifles) of 141 Brigade, 47th Division, moved into the front line at Carency, near Souchez just to the north of Arras. Here they remained for 10 days during which time the enemy artillery was a constant threat. The Battalion Diary records that on 19th March, 2 men were killed and another 2 were wounded as a result of the shelling. One of those killed was Frederick Kemp.
